French Minister of State for Transport Jean-Batiste Djebbari  announced that approximately 7,600 posts will be reduced by Air France, calling on the national flagship airline to make as few mandatory redundancies as possible.

Because of the coronavirus pandemic, the flag carrier was forced to cut its workforce by 40 percent by 2022.

Air France expected 6,560 layoffs with 430 pilots, 1,560 flight attendants, and over 4,500 ground staff in detail. The company's domestically owned Hop will also cut 1,025 jobs.

"Indeed, these figures were presented yesterday in an extraordinary company meeting. These figures depend a lot on the enterprises' devices and the traffic's resumption," Djebbari told.

The French government, which owns 14.3% of Air France-KLM Group, has asked the airline managers to reduce the number of redundancies by encouraging voluntary departures, as much as possible.
