KUALA LUMPUR:

Interstate travel by using land public transport motorcycle is now allowed.

Datuk Huzir Mohamed, director of Bukit Aman's Department for Crime Investigation said that public land transport must have an authorisation from authorities for this purpose.

"People who use land or motorcycles should receive permission from the police for inter-state travel via the Gerak Malaysian application or manually from the nearest police station.

"It is only for the people who are stranded in their home towns and who want to return home or who are only going and returning for work," he stated in a statement.

The interstate movement began today until May 10, beginning with Kuala Lumpur followed by homeward-bound movement from Perak, Perak, Johor, and Kelantan tomorrow, while from Perlis, Kedah, Pulau Pinang, Melaka dan Pahang, it is on Saturday,  and from Selangor, Negeri Sembilan, and Terengganu on Sunday.

The movement of vehicles has been found to be smooth by observation and surveying along highways and federal roads.

As of Wednesday, the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) accepted 143,516 applications made through the Gerak Malaysia application for those people wanting to travel across states.

"We remind the public to always take care of their safety and always practice social distancing," said Huzir.
