Bolt, Europe’s leading mobility platform, has introduced a game-changing upgrade to its Malaysian ride-hailing service by becoming the first platform in the country to fully integrate toll fares into its fare structure.

This pioneering move sets a new industry standard by offering both passengers and partner drivers a seamless, transparent toll fare experience. Previously, toll charges were often calculated separately or manually reconciled after a ride—leading to confusion and disputes. Bolt’s integration simplifies this process, providing an upfront total fare, inclusive of tolls, before the ride is confirmed.

With close to 200 tolls operating nationwide across Malaysia’s open, closed, and mixed systems, the challenge of toll management has long plagued the ride-hailing sector. Notably, around 30% of Bolt rides in the country pass through at least one toll, underscoring the significance of this update.

“This integration reflects our deep understanding of the Malaysian driving landscape,” said Afzan Lutfi, General Manager of Bolt Malaysia. “We’ve eliminated the guesswork by automating toll calculations, which improves efficiency for our drivers and clarity for our passengers. Greater transparency ultimately leads to a better ride experience.”

Partner drivers echoed similar sentiments. Rahimah Ismail, a Bolt driver from Klang Valley, shared, “Before this, tracking tolls during peak hours was challenging. Now, everything is calculated upfront, saving time and reducing misunderstandings with passengers.”

The new toll fare integration also supports drivers by eliminating the need for manual toll tracking, allowing them to focus on delivering top-quality service and maximizing their earnings. Additionally, Bolt announced upcoming upgrades—including enhanced pickup distance management and streamlined access to earnings—during its recent Raya Open House with partner drivers.

These improvements are a direct result of driver feedback and form part of Bolt’s broader mission: to create cities built for people, not cars. By removing everyday barriers in urban mobility, Bolt is reshaping how Malaysians move through their cities.
