Malaysia is using the 46th ASEAN Summit as a stage to highlight its rich cultural heritage, blending diplomacy with a celebration of arts, traditions, and cuisine.
Held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre on May 26 and 27, the summit goes beyond regional talks, offering delegates from ASEAN and Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) nations a true taste of Malaysia’s diversity.
This marks Malaysia’s fifth time hosting the ASEAN Summit, with this year’s edition expanding its global reach through the second ASEAN-GCC Summit and the inaugural ASEAN-GCC-China Summit.
From cultural performances and art installations to live handicraft demonstrations, the Tourism, Arts and Culture Ministry is transforming the summit venue into a vibrant showcase of Malaysian culture.
A trade exhibition featuring 25 Malaysian exhibitors — from major corporations to small businesses — highlights homegrown products, with a focus on inclusivity and sustainability. Visitors can explore local crafts, sample Malaysian food and beverages, and discover services by domestic companies.
Culinary diplomacy is also in the spotlight, with a special menu curated by Executive Chef Hisham Jaafar, known for catering past summits attended by global leaders. The menu features Malaysian favourites from Malay, Chinese, Indian, and East Malaysian cuisines — including Baba and Nyonya dishes, Sarawak’s umai, and Sabah’s kinilau.
Beyond official discussions, Malaysia’s cultural programming aims to strengthen regional ties and position the country as a vibrant hub of arts, heritage, and hospitality.
This commitment to cultural diplomacy echoes Malaysia’s previous hosting of the 27th ASEAN Summit in 2015, where the theme “Our People, Our Community, Our Vision” emphasised unity across the region.
With the 46th ASEAN Summit, Malaysia once again puts its cultural identity at the forefront of international dialogue.
