Artificial intelligence is rapidly reshaping the future of travel, transforming it into a more personalized, value-driven, and seamless experience. From planning itineraries to booking restaurants, AI is fast becoming the go-to travel companion for modern globetrotters.
According to a recent Travel Dreams report by the Amadeus IT Group, which surveyed 6,000 travellers globally, AI is already influencing how people dream, plan, and experience their trips. Only 13% of all respondents—and just 3% of Gen Z—said they wouldn’t trust AI for travel recommendations.
The study highlights the growing confidence in AI, with half of travellers willing to rely on it for restaurant suggestions, while 54% of business travellers are happy to let AI handle their reservations. Additionally, 50% of travellers trust AI to recommend entertainment venues, and 18% are even open to AI-generated reviews of their travel experiences.
Travelers are especially eager to access destination insights before they arrive. Top interests include the best places to eat (54%), how to navigate the area (49%), safety tips (44%), and discovering hidden gems (43%).
With 56% of travellers prioritizing value for money, AI is seen as a powerful tool to help them make smarter decisions. Personalized virtual travel assistants are particularly appealing—28% of all travellers, and 42% of business travellers, believe these AI features would improve their hotel stays. Moreover, 25% would welcome an AI chatbot to assist them during their stay.
And it doesn’t stop there—virtual reality is also making waves. Some 66% of leisure travellers said they’d love to explore a destination virtually before booking it, offering a glimpse into a future where tech guides travel from start to finish.
As digital tools evolve, it’s clear: the smart traveller of tomorrow won’t go anywhere without a bit of AI by their side.
