KUALA LUMPUR, 23 August 2025 – A total of RM72.05 million has been allocated for the development and maintenance of tourism infrastructure projects under the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP) from 2021 to 2025, the Dewan Rakyat was informed.
According to the Tourism, Arts and Culture Ministry (MOTAC), the sum includes RM7.75 million specifically for four development and maintenance projects in Semporna, Sabah during the period.
The ministry was responding to a question from Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal (Warisan–Semporna), who asked about the extent of tourism infrastructure development in Sabah in preparation for Visit Malaysia Year 2026.
MOTAC added that beyond physical infrastructure, it is actively strengthening Sabah and Sarawak’s tourism appeal through digital promotions, social media campaigns, and collaborations with influencers.
“The Ministry is also introducing tourism industry grant initiatives aimed at stimulating attractive travel packages to Sabah and Sarawak, particularly family holiday packages, community-based tourism, eco-tourism, and homestays,” it said in a statement.
The government sees these efforts as essential to bolstering East Malaysia’s role in drawing both domestic and international visitors ahead of the nationwide tourism campaign.
