Kuala Lumpur:

Malaysia marked a new milestone in tourism and aviation today as Jiangxi Air, a rising low-cost carrier from China, successfully launched its inaugural international route connecting Nanchang, the capital of Jiangxi Province, to Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA).

Flight RY6607 touched down at KLIA this afternoon, making history as the first-ever direct flight between Nanchang and Malaysia. The new route strengthens not just tourism ties, but also trade, investment, and people-to-people exchanges between Malaysia and eastern China.

The landmark event was officiated by Mr. Chua Choon Hwa, Deputy Secretary General (Tourism) and YBhg. Dato’ Normah Osman, Deputy Secretary General (Policy) of the Ministry of Transport. Also present were Mr. Samuel Lee, Deputy Director General (Promotion II) of Tourism Malaysia, Dato’ Mohd Izani Ghani, Managing Director of Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB), and Mr. Kang Zhiyang, General Manager of Jiangxi Air.

“This new air link is a testament to the strong and ever-growing tourism ties between Malaysia and China,” said YB Dato Sri Tiong King Sing, Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Malaysia. “We look forward to welcoming more Chinese travellers to experience Malaysia’s rich cultural heritage, natural beauty, and diverse offerings.”

The twice-weekly flights will be operated using Jiangxi Air’s Boeing 737-800 aircraft with 175 seats.

This Kuala Lumpur service is Jiangxi Air’s first-ever international scheduled route, signalling strong confidence in Malaysia as a strategic entry point to Southeast Asia and a top-tier tourism destination.

From January to June 2025, Malaysia received 2.17 million Chinese visitors, a 35.6% increase compared to the same period in 2024. With the addition of the Nanchang–KLIA route, Tourism Malaysia anticipates a continued surge in arrivals, particularly from Jiangxi Province.

As Malaysia gears up for Visit Malaysia 2026, Tourism Malaysia remains committed to expanding international connectivity and strengthening partnerships with global airlines, airports, and tourism stakeholders to elevate the country’s standing as a premier travel hub in the region.
