Langkawi has received a tourism boost with the arrival of two charter flights operated by Greater Bay Airlines from Hong Kong, marking renewed international interest in the island.
The flights, operated on 18 and 22 August using a Boeing 737-800 with 189 seats, were managed by Hong Kong-based travel agency You Wings Holidays to capture the peak summer travel season.
The inaugural flight, HB8211, landed on 18 August carrying 165 tourists eager to explore Malaysia’s premier island destination. The second charter touched down on 22 August at Langkawi International Airport.
To commemorate the arrivals, Langkawi Development Authority (LADA) Chief Executive Officer Datuk Seri Haji Iskandar bin Datuk Haji Mohd Kaus, alongside officials from Tourism Malaysia, the airport, and various local tourism agencies, hosted a special welcome ceremony.
“These charter services not only highlight Langkawi’s appeal in the Hong Kong market but also strengthen our efforts to position the island as a leading tourism destination,” said Datuk Seri Iskandar. “It is in line with Visit Kedah 2025 and the upcoming Visit Malaysia 2026 campaigns.”
The charter flights are expected to pave the way for further collaboration with international travel partners, boosting Langkawi’s connectivity and enhancing its role as a key gateway for regional tourism.
