Various incentives are being prepared by Perak government to promote its geotrail tourism product which is a guided trail of multiple geosites.

The geotrail tour will allow visitors to experience geological attractions and landscapes.

State tourism, industry, investment and corridor development committee chairman Loh Sze Yee said there were 22 geosites listed in Kinta Valley Geopark, including Gunung Masoorat and Gunung Cheoroh.

“Among efforts made to boost tourism is holding events with a geopark theme and featuring them on our Visit Perak Year 2024 calendar.

“The events include the first International Geopark Run Lenggong and celebrating the fifth year of Kinta Valley Geopark,” he said during a question-and-answer session at the Perak state assembly sitting at the state secretariat building yesterday.

“We are also working with the Federal Government and state agencies such as Perak State Park Corporation, Mineral and Geoscience Department, Tourism Arts and Culture Ministry, (Motac) and Natural Resources Environment and Climate Change Ministry,” he said when responding to a question from Mohamad Husairi Arifin (PN-Kenering).

Loh said the state government was also working with the local community.

“On Oct 30, we held a a free eco-host course for 24 Kinta Valley Geopark geoguides and 30 Lenggong Geopark geoguides on pre-requirements to apply for Motac’s geoguide licence.

“Geoguide is a local community initiative offering lessons on geology and geo-tourism,” he said.

In July, Tourism Malaysia launched the Lembah Lenggong Archaeotourism and Geopark Packages to promote the historical and natural heritage of Lenggong Geopark, the second national geopark in Perak after the Kinta Valley Geopark.
