KEDAH:

Kedah Tourism will continue to intensify efforts to promote tourism, especially on social media, although the state is under the control order of the motion (MCO).

Kedah Tourism Manager Nor Azlan Fitri Abdul Razak said it was important to make continuous efforts to ensure that the state's tourism sector, which was hit by a decline in tourist arrivals due to Covid-19, could survive.

Through this continual promotion, when the MCO finishes, visitors will prepare and list the places they would like to visit.

According to our data, each time inter-district travel is allowed, the number of domestic tourists to 12 districts in the state, especially Baling and Yan, increases tremendously because there are many interesting places there, he said.

He said that many tourism operators in the state had to shut down after the Covid-19 outbreak and the implementation of the MCO in March last year as they could not afford to maintain their businesses due to financial difficulties.

"This is inevitable, but I hope that once the pandemic is over, all tourism operators in Kedah can survive and resume operations," he said.

Kedah Tourism, the state government and other agencies, including the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, will help revive tourism activities in Kedah and the region, he said.
