MELAKA:

The Government of Melaka is exploring collaboration with several other states in the implementation of the travel bubble concept, to carry out bilateral tourism programmes.

Datuk Muhammad Jailani Khamis,Chairman of the State Tourism, Heritage and Culture Committee, stated that it includes a tourism cooperation initiative with Terengganu through the Melaka-Terengganu Tourist Package, called "Garam Dilaut, Asamdi Darat."

He added that the programme would use the services of travel agencies and the tourist accomodation premises registered under the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture.

“To realise this collaboration, the proposed package would be presented to the Terengganu state government during a working visit from 29 March 2021 until April 2021.

"These two state have their own benefits in tourism, with the islands of Terengganu known for their uniqueness and Melaka for their historical sites," he said during an Ayer Keroh press conference.

Jailani stated that at the end of the working visit, the details of Terengganu's proposed cooperation would be announced following a review of the tourist facilities.

The Melaka government would also concentrate on specific packages based on states under the RMCO in order to revitalise the tourism industry, affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Jailani said the Menara Taming Sari in Melaka should resume operations next month after being closed for repair and maintenance work for visitors for more than seven months.
