MALAYSIA:

With the increase in congestion between Malaysia and Singapore and gradually with the worsening situation, the possibility of construction of a third bridge linking Malaysia and Singapore will be good news.

It is proposed that the third bridge should be built in Pasir Gudang as this could help ease the traffic crawl on the Johor Causeway.

The subject of a third bridge came on Monday at the Johor state assembly when Home Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin noted that both the Customs, Immigration and Quarantine complexes were already reaching their maximum capabilities and a third bridge would resolve congestion problems.

He said he had been appointed by the Federal Government to head a committee to look after the congestion at both checkpoints and come up with a solution.

Presently, more than 367,000 people use the two Customs, Immigration and Quarantine complexes (CIQs) daily, with 254,000 people using the Johor Baru side while the rest opt for the Second Link.
