PADANG BESAR:

Raja of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Putra Jamalullail urged venture in private sector companies to help develop more tourist spots in the state.

However, he said this should be supported by the policies of the state government which might help facilitate the effort to boost the tourism industry of the state.

"We should be able to attract foreign tourists to spend at least one night here in the development of the tourism industry because we can not rely solely on domestic tourists," he said in his Royal Address when opening the Gua Kelam Gallery at the Gua Kelam Ecotourism Complex today.

The event was also graced by Perlis Tuanku Perempuan Tengku Fauziah Tengku Abdul Rashid, Perlis Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail Raja Muda and Perlis Tuanku Lailatul Shahreen Akashah Khalil Raja Puan Muda.

Also present was Perlis Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Azlan Man.

Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin has said that the Perlis tourism industry should also give tourists exclusive travel experiences.

"With the unique tourist attractions coupled with the beautiful landscape of Perlis, I believe more foreign tourists are going to be delighted to visit the state," he said.

His Highness encouraged both parties to join hands in supporting the Visit Malaysia 2020 initiative and the Visit Perlis 2021.

Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin also urged the Perlis people to play their part in keeping the state clean and not relying entirely on the local authorities to do the job.

"There's no point in having a beautiful place but the rubbish fills the area. I don't want foreign tourists coming to Perlis to enjoy their beauty but the eyesore is what they remember," he said.
