SARAWAK:

The Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture (MTAC) Sarawak and the Board of Directors (BOD) of Business Events Sarawak (BESarawak) have announced the appointment of Amelia Roziman as the new Chief Executive Officer starting 1 August 2021 to lead Malaysia’s first convention bureau in Sarawak.

With more than 20 years of experience in branding and marketing and 15 years of experience in business events, MTAC Sarawak and BOD of BESarawak hope that Amelia’s leadership and global accomplishments will hone Sarawak’s business events industry towards defining a higher purpose of developing, bidding, and hosting business events.

Sarawak’s Post COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030 of 10 years is placing business events as an economic and social thrust to promote economic prosperity, social inclusivity, and environmental sustainability. BESarawak’s approach to align with the government’s aspirations is through Legacy Impact, a motion that promotes sectoral, community and social, trade and investment, political, and environmental development from business events. It is a win-win situation for Sarawak and convention planners as Legacy Impact is guiding planners to take strategic action on their long-term legacy goals.

“I have always wanted to have an active role in making a difference to my homeland, Sarawak,” she said. “I grew up from a humble background, therefore, understand the adversities faced by those from similar backgrounds. Being one of the contributors in developing the PCDS with the inclusion of implementing the Legacy Impact motion, it has given me an amazing opportunity to integrate my personal and professional goals and take Sarawak to another level in developing this industry.” Amelia commented.

Amelia is one of the pioneer team members of BESarawak when it was formed in 2006. She started as a sales coordinator and climbed up the corporate ladder with outstanding performance, creativity, visionary and leadership.

“It is such an honour to be able to serve and work with a dynamic team in BESarawak. The support and guidance given by my team, family, former CEOs, board members; not forgetting to mention the local, national, and international industry and stakeholders that has made me what I am today. Thank you so much and I am looking forward to a long, new, and exciting journey. Together we can make a difference to our industry, state, country and ultimately, the world,” she added.
