SARAWAK:

A culturally diverse land, Sarawak is also home to stunning natural attractions that appeal to tourists wishing to explore the wonders of nature.

The Land of the Hornbills houses a wide variety of flora and fauna, recognised not just locally, but on a global scale.

With nearly 63% of the state covered in lush greenery, the state government is committed to preserving Sarawak’s seven million hectares of forest.

Thus far, a total of 46 national parks have been established as part of the state’s conservation efforts, including those in Kuching Division, such as Kubah, Bako, Santubong, Kuching Wetlands, Tanjung Datu and Gunung Gading.

Other locations include Batang Ai in Sri Aman Division; Bukit Lambir, Niah, Mulu and Usun Apau in Miri Division; as well as Similajau and Bukit Tiban in Bintulu Division.
Out of the 2.1 million hectares of land, around 15 nature reserves and five wildlife sanctuaries have been gazetted in Sarawak.
The National Parks in Bako, Similajau, Gunung Gading, Gunung Mulu and Niah are visually breathtaking and easily accessible as they are located close to the cities.
There are other hidden gems like the mesmerising Lusong Laku waterfall in Belaga.

Tourism, arts and culture minister Nancy Shukri said that the Wong Pejik waterfalls in Lusong Laku was similar to Niagara Falls in Ontario, Canada, making it a potential tourist destination.

“We must promote these attractions so more visitors come to Sarawak. In time, Malaysia will become the top-of-mind ecotourism destination in the world. This is in line with the National Tourism Policy 2020–2030,” said Nancy during her trip to Lusong Laku in October this year.

Meanwhile, Sarawak tourism, arts and culture minister Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah spoke of the various initiatives to boost tourism in the state.
This includes the “Jom Ke Sarawak” promotional programme, a joint collaboration between the Sarawak Tourism Board, Sarawak Tourism Federation, Association of Sarawak Inbound Agencies and Shopee Malaysia.

Additionally, two of the state’s tourism campaigns, Sia Sitok Sarawak 1 and 2, were well received thanks to discounts of up to 50% that were offered.
Launched in 2020, the Sia Sitok 1 campaign received 942 reservations from 5,664 visitors while the Sia Sitok 2 campaign garnered 507 bookings from 3,623 visitors.

There were also 2,122 room reservations made during the campaign since Oct 1, 2020.
