SELANGOR:

The Selangor state government, through Tourism Selangor, released the 'Go Selangor' smartphone app yesterday, which gives travelers complete access to the state's tourism offerings. The platform, which is now Malaysia's sole state tourist app, is supposed to assist strengthen Selangor's economy.

Hee Loy Sian, chairman of the State Tourism, Environment, Green Technology, and Orang Asli Affairs Committee, said the app will serve as a 'one-stop hub' for various merchants, including operators and dealers, to encourage tourists to visit Selangor's attractive areas. He went on to say that the launch was following his team's efforts to digitalize Selangor's tourism business.

Selangor Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari announced the app's development on November 26 of last year. Since then, the app has been built in collaboration with Tourplus Technology, a local business, at a cost of around RM3 million.

Loy Sian told Selangorkini that the Go Selangor app is really easy, as it allows tourists to simply purchase tickets, and book hotels, chalets, homestays, transportation, and other services. There are currently over 300 retailers registered on the app, with the team aiming for 100,000 by the end of 2022.

Traders and operators that want to register as merchants on the app will be able to do so for free for the first year. Starting in the second year, an RM300 annual fee would be imposed.
