Kualalumpur:Kuala Lumpur’s affordable public transport has made the capital a favourable destination for international visitors. According to a recent report by Taxi2Airport, Kuala Lumpur has the cheapest public transport in South-East Asia with an average ticket costing around RM3.00. On an average, the international taxi platform highlighted that a single short ride in the capital of Malaysia costs around €0.21 (RM0.95) while longer trips cost about €1.11 (RM5.10). According to a global estimation, the study disclosed an average ride in tourist cities costs under €2 (RM9.20). Taxi2Airport said “For many tourists, travel costs in a country and city of destination is a major expense. Many tourists save money by using public transport,”. The survey report is a collaborative effort as Taxi2airport has combined its own research data withthe data from online database PriceofTravel. The affordability of KL’s public transport has knocked off Singapore, Bangkok and Phuket, where the average ticket costs €0.95 (RM4.35), €0.96 (RM4.40) and €0.92 (RM4.25) respectively. The portal has also surveyed that the most used mode of transportation are the busses, trains and trams to be used commonly for public transport, worldwide. Of all the tourist’s cities analysed, busses were found in 35.8% of cities. The train/metro are also common in tourist cities contributing around 19.8%. Third segment has been slotted for trams and trains combined, with a total share of 12.3%. The study also includes the prices of one-way rides with public transport. However, talking globally, the cheapest rides happens in Cairo, Egypt, and Buenos Aires, Argentina, with an average of €0.11 (RM0.50) and the costliest being in Venice, a single public transport ride which costs an average €7.67 (RM35.25) on the water bus. In Copenhagen, public transport is the most expensive for a one-way ticket, costing up to €13.90 (RM63.85). Recently, Resorts World Genting has introduced a daily bus ride to Hatyai, Thailand. With its latest route, the resort offers four travel packages in partnership with Thai Tourism Authorities.
