TERENGGANU :

Approximately 5,000 people working in the tourism sector in Terengganu, primarily on the resort islands, are expected to be fully vaccinated by the end of August.

State Tourism, Culture, and Digital Technology Committee chairman Ariffin Deraman said this was part of the state's plans to revive the tourism sector once the situation with Covid-19 improves.

"The vaccination process for tourism sector players began last week in Pulau Kapas, and the second program began yesterday in Kenyir Lake before moving on to other sites including Pulau Redang in Kuala Nerus, Pulau Perhentian (Besut), and Pulau Tenggol (Dungun)," he said.

To help revitalize Terengganu's tourism industry, Ariffin said the state administration hoped the federal government would consider allowing fully vaccinated citizens to travel between districts.

"Due to the monsoon season, operations on Terengganu's resort islands usually slows down from November to February. As a result, we'd like to recommend that inter-district travel be permitted for the next few months "he stated

He added that the state administration has also applied to the federal government for permission to create a green travel bubble for the state's tourism islands, similar to the proposal for Pulau Langkawi in Kedah.

According to him, a total of 52,380 people (78%) out of 67,056 people in the central region, which includes the districts of Dungun, Hulu Terengganu, and Kemaman, have registered as vaccine recipients as of July 18.

At nine outreach PPVs throughout the region, a total of 12,340 people had received both doses of the vaccine.
