MALAYSIA:

According to Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing, segregation is a hidden threat to social security, thus everyone needs to be on the lookout for anything that could fuel discord among the populace.

Given that Malaysia is a multiethnic nation, the minister of tourism, arts, and culture stated that people should appreciate one another regardless of their origins in terms of social class, ethnicity, or culture.

The Bintulu MP referred to the fire that damaged DAP's Bruas MP Datuk Ngeh Koo Ham's home, which was likely caused by arson, in a statement. "We must never use extreme methods to safeguard our platforms or interests, or pretend to be heroes," the MP stated.

Even though Tiong was unaware of the incident, he claimed that Ngeh had mentioned during the press conference that the case was related to Ngeh's earlier remarks regarding permitting non-Muslim experts to serve on the special committee that was tasked with investigating the alignment of Syariah law with the Federal Constitution.

"Of course, the police must do additional investigation before the truth can be made public.

"On the other hand, if someone did purposefully start a fire for that reason, it should never be accepted and those responsible should face harsh consequences," Tiong stated on Saturday at the Progressive Democratic Party's (PDP) "A Night With The People 2024" event.

He said that as Malaysia's recovery was progressing as planned, the unity administration would keep the principle of "finding common ground, celebrating differences" as its top priority and continue to prioritize the welfare of the populace.

"Remember that harmony, unity, and coexistence in diversity are vital building blocks for a country's development and peace.

"Only in this way can we assure that our country can move forward with advantage and boost economic growth in a business-friendly climate, especially in Bintulu,” he said.

Tiong, who is also the president of PDP, a party that is a part of the current state's ruling coalition, Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS), stated that the state government, led by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, has consistently served as a model for harmonious coexistence and cultural integration across the country.

"We Sarawakians are acutely aware that building the economy, helping Sarawakians, and expanding job possibilities can only be done in the context of social harmony and political stability.

"This should also be seen as the proper way for the entire country to move forward steadily,” he said.

Furthermore, Tiong stated that a political party's role as a liaison between the public and the government was one of its obligations.

As with tonight's event, the PDP wants to have a cordial conversation with everyone, especially the younger generation, to learn about your opinions on the nation's development possibilities

"At the same time, it encourages political parties to reflect on themselves and promptly change their course in politics."
